The recent IDSA meeting in scenic Vancouver was a success with record numbers of attendees and presentations. Our semi-annual meeting of the IDSO was likewise a success during the IDSA meeting. We had 25 members and guests attend the dinner meeting which spanned over three hours with lively discussion on several topics including a talk on gram negative infections by Joe Kishel, PharmD.
We are in the midst of a wonderful opportunity of representation for the state of Ohio with Dr. Tom File as a member of IDSA Board of Directors, Dr.Steve Gordon as president of SHEA, Dr. Steve Schmitt serving on the Clinical Affairs Committee of IDSA and Dr. Scott Stienecker continuing as a liaison for legislative issues in the state of Ohio. Each provided insight into current activities and issues facing us. Many of us may not be “politically oriented” but it is without a doubt a time to be aware of the issues and express our opinions as many major changes and head winds face us and the practice of medicine.
We have a functioning website for our organization thanks to the efforts of Dr. Stienecker and the ongoing efforts of our vice president Dr. Steve Burdette. We are working on enhancements that will provide members with up to date information on events and issues. In the near future, we plan to post IDSA and state legislative updates, provide opportunities for collaborative research, post names of members willing to provide visiting professorships and reminders for upcoming meetings.
Our spring meeting is being finalized and scheduled for April 9, 2011. We hope our agenda will be inviting and informative. Please mark your calendar, plan to attend and invite practitioners who are not members to join our organization. Looking forward to seeing everyone in April.
